on a lovely sunday evening a young man of the age 19 happened upon a volume entitled "Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales." As he read through the fanciful tales of wonder and awe, one especially caught his eye.
The Golden Key
In the winter time, when deep snow lay on the ground, a poor boy was forcced to go out on a sledge to fetch wood. When he had gathered it together, and packed it, he wished, as he was so frozen with cold, not to go home at once, but to light a fire and warm himself a little. So he scraped away the snow, and as he was thus clearing the ground, he found a tiny, gold key. hereupon he thought that where the key was, the lock must be also, and dug in the ground and found an iron chest. "If the key does but fit it!" though he; "no doubt there are precious things in that little box." He searched, but no keyhole was there. At last he discovered one, but so small that it was hardly visible. He tried it, and the key fitted exavtly. Then he turned it once round, and now we must wait until he has quite unlocked it and opened the lid, and then we shall learn what wonderful things were lying in that box.
THE END
Really? thats it? did he die from the cold? is he hallucinating cuz he's dying? did he find something and burst from the shackles of poverty. Did he usurp the mystical medallion's good magic and use it for evil or use it to make forest creature friends? Did he use his newfound riches to ease the burdens of others and spread joy through his philantropic ways? or did he perchance become and oppressive tyrant further enlarging the troubles of the peasants underneath him? did this cause a surf uprising years in the future and a revolt against the aristocratic ancestors of this boy, even though said ancestors are generous and benevolent? what happened???? did he realize it was just and old iron box and was whipped upon his return because he took so long musing over a stuoid iron box? why was there no key hole but then suddenly there was a key hole but it was tiny but miraculously the normal sized key fit into a nearly invisible keyhole?
i cant figure out this story/ for reals my best guess is that the kid just dies out there in the cold and there's some deep meaning that obviously portrays that. i dunno. hmmm.
